Self-Love Starts With How You Dress

When I wake up to go to work in the morning, my first thought is always: what am I going to wear today? I think this is a very common question amongst women. We then proceed to make a mess of our rooms, skirts and shirts flying across the space, trying to find the perfect outfit. The outfit that feels flawless, the outfit that makes you say, “I love myself today.”

Unfortunately, societal standards have made it so that in order for women to be respected and embraced, especially in working environments, they have to look flawless. Perfect. And over time, this idea has shaped how many women measure their self-esteem and confidence. While times are changing, this belief remains deeply ingrained in our society, and in our own thinking.

However, self-love should not come from mirroring the idea of the “perfect woman,” because that woman doesn’t exist. Self-love should start with comfort and with joy.

Firstly, many women try to “fit into their clothes,” prioritising appearance over comfort and movement. Doing so often leads to daily discomfort, restricted movement, and a loss of confidence in what they’re wearing. Clothes should fit a woman’s body without her having to suck in her stomach or bend backwards just to make them work. Proper clothing should prioritise natural movement and a comfortable fit. When that happens, women are able to embrace themselves fully moving freely without constantly adjusting a skirt or unbuttoning pants just to breathe.

Additionally, colour has become a growing topic in women’s fashion. Colour theory, skin tones, and “flattering” shades are discussed endlessly. And yet, most of us end up reaching for neutrals anyway, because who wants to do colour theory before work?

Still, colour is a powerful source of joy and confidence. Wearing a colour you love should never feel like a risk. Women shouldn’t feel judged or less confident because of the colours they choose. If a colour makes you feel joyful, wear it. It doesn’t matter if it makes you look a little paler or warmer, what people notice is your confidence, not the undertone of your skin.

At Nevice, we want women to feel empowered in their clothing, to feel confident, joyful, and comfortable. We believe in respecting women’s bodies, the environment, and the people around us. In 2026, comfort is the new elegant, and joy is the new power. Wear it. Embrace it.
